“We don’t just push buttons” – A DJ/Emcee workshop designed to teach pro tips on microphone techniques
Tuesday, August 26, 1:30-2:30 pm

Every DJ in the gentlemen’s club industry uses a microphone. Some are witty and funny, some have the voice of a “Golden God.” The most important part about talking on a microphone is knowing how to take command of a room — that is, knowing what to say and how to say it. There is an actual science and art form to microphone technique. From using your diaphragm properly to knowing how to color your sentences by utilizing inflection and proper annunciation, the difference between a novice DJ and a professional DJ is in the details.

Michael DeSuno from Tootsies Cabaret, Miami and Chris Scarsi from Diamond Cabaret, Denver (better known as DJ Platypus and DJ Butter) have organized a unique experience for this year’s EXPO: A workshop on how to use a microphone. The RCI duo plan on teaching a variety of microphone techniques from using cadences while announcing girls to stage to in-house promos using proven tactics such as using inflection or putting a “smile” in your voice. DeSuno and Scarsi have a personal challenge to each other in this workshop. They plan on taking a random member of the audience who has never used a microphone professionally, and train them live, in real time, on five steps to be professional on a microphone in less than 10 minutes. This workshop is designed to cater to beginner DJs just starting out to professional-caliber DJs with years of experience. Managers and GMs could also benefit from this workshop. If your DJ is stuck in traffic and the club is about to open, this workshop can teach a non-DJ the essential steps to perform on the microphone at a professional level.
At the end of the workshop, DJ Platypus and DJ Butter are going to raffle off a brand new professional microphone free of charge to any and all DJs in attendance. Don’t miss this unique interactive experience by two of the industry’s top DJs!
